Walking and Writing Workshops

Hiku Hikes

Write your heart into place with published poet Silke Heiss on a 'Hiku Hike' in Hogsback. Hear words and water and add your own, to commemorate your visit to Hogsback by means of 'verbal snapshots'.

The 'Hiku Hike' leads from the Swallowtail Falls parking place to the top of Swallowtail Falls. En route, the poet reads a poem from 'Hogsback Hiku' with commentary; while you compose your own poem or reflective piece of writing, based on your impressions of the place. Feedback is given at the end of the walk.

As one hiku hiker wrote afterwards: "Thank you so much for such an inspirational walk. I thought it would just be a walk but it turned out to be more than that. ... I'm not a writer by profession but the workshop was very helpful. Who knows my interest in writing poetry might have been born that morning."

Bring pen and paper.
